Oridathu (1986)-Malayalam Movie by G Aravindan
Oridathu - 1986(At a Place)is about the arrival of electricity in a village and is imbued with a deep sense of apprehension about ‘progress’. The narrative gathers momentum by piecing together little anecdotes and incidents that are triggered by the arrival of this alien technology, and gradually turns into a catastrophic vision about it. In the final sequence, we see a human figure is seen flying in the sky, as if it had lost all its connections with the earth and human life(upperstall.com)Aravindan on Oridathu
Set in a remote part of Travancore-Cochin, Oridathu tells the story of a village where electricity arrives for the first time. The villagers find this modern innovation as a threat to their natural way of life, accustomed to more earthy resources of energy. The film depicts the narrow mindedness and hypocrisies of village lives with humour. The film reaches a conclusion that life is better without electricity and also condoms cinema as a legitimate means of expression(cinemaofmalyalam.net).

Esthappan (1979)-Malayalam Movie by G Aravindan
Aravindan’s Esthappan (Stephen) is about the stuff legends are made of, about how we, transcend the everydayness of our lives by weaving tales out of memories, dreams and imagination. This narrative about Esthappan, who turns into a visionary in the minds of the Christian fisher folk in their village, weaves into itself local myths and legends, folk play and songs. Many of his films like Uttarayanam, Esthappan and Oridathu make creative use of the episodic cartoon format(info from upperstall.com). Esthappan is set among christian fishermen in Kerala and narrates life of a wandering and mysterious spiritualist.Arivandan draws parallels with the Biblical story of Christ and the mystic image of Estheppan constructed through reports about him by the people. While the Biblical myth is created as a reality, the simple life of Estheppan is converted to a myth.Direction, Co-Screenplay & Co-Music: G Aravindan

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar(2000)-Movie by Jabbar Patel
Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar is one of the finest historical film made in Independent India. This movie takes place between the years 1901 to 1956, a period of great social upheavals and revolutionary movements around the world. In India during this time, there were two struggles being fought simultaneously; the first, which is well known throughout the world, was India's fight for independence spearheaded by Mahatma Gandhi, against the British colonial powers. The second struggle, much less well known but no less important was an internal struggle. Seventy million Indian untouchables, led by Dr. Ambedkar were fighting for their rights against upper caste Hindu society. This film holds its significance due to the fact that, though the ethos contained is Indian, it has its equation in the political and social disparity all over the world. The basic aim of the social revolution is to uphold the meaning of humanity in its truest sense(from zinemay.com)According to director Jabbar Patel, it is important for every Indian to see the film because “we don’t often read this chapter of our history. As we can see from events around us today, the social struggle of Dr. Ambedkar is important to know because it helps us better understand the present”.

Akale (2004)-Malayalam Movie by Shyamaprasad
A beautiful movie emphasizing on family values and so much more by a director who can perfect. It is a small film, something like chamber music. There are only four characters in the film, and the location is just one house - somewhat Bergman-esque!. Akale is set in the seventies in a shabby seaside house occupied by Margaret Evans and her two adult children: shy, fragile Rosa, and Neil, a restless, poetic soul trapped in a stifling factory job. Niel’s dilemma forms a central conflict of the film, as he faces an agonizing choice between responsibility for his family and living his own life. While the original play (Tennessee Williams play "Glass Menagerie" ) was set in the US in the 1930s, the director decided to make the mother and her two children Anglo-Indians. The film was shot mostly in Kannur.
Neil Evans narrates this, revisiting a time when his family longs to escape their meager existence by creating idealized fantasy worlds. A dream-like, illusory atmosphere help to create a powerful representation of family, memory, and loss.
Elegant juxtaposition of the humorous and the tragic, lonely characters, and dark sensibilities explores ways of using the medium of cinema to depict the interior life and memories of a character(Shyamaprasad.com :: The Show Goes On.)
Shyamaprasad had said that Akale was one film in which he had made the least compromises, artistically as well as technically. "I made this film to please my taste and tastes similar to mine," he said.
It shows.

Kaazhcha(2004)-Malayalam Movie by Blessy
Kazhcha(sight)
Blessy's Kaazhcha, is a throwback to the golden days of cinema in Kerala, the era of Padmarajan and Bharatan-the champions of middle cinema in the 1980s. Not surprising, because Blessy learned filmmaking from the late Padmarajan.
Kaazhcha revolves around a Gujarati boy wandering into a small village in Kerala after the Kutch earthquake. A kind-hearted film operator, Madhavan (Mammootty), brings the child home. But law and red tape force him to leave the child in a relief camp in Gujarat. Madhavan's pleas to take the boy back with him to Kerala fall on deaf ears because the names of the boy's parents are still on the 'missing' list.
